Mestalla brimming with emotions running high
Relive the emotional events that took place in the run-up to Valencia CF-Real Betis to pay tribute to the victims and those affected by the tragic flash floods
Javi Gracia was content with the showing from his players in the 2-2 draw with FC Barcelona. The coach spoke about a strong performance -and the boost that it will provide- in his post-match press conference.
Proud of the team's work
"Justice doesn't exist in football. After this game I'm very happy with the work my players did. We competed very well against FC Barcelona. I think that we could have scored another goal in the first half, but then we had that unfortunate penalty call against us. After that we had to suffer and we once again showed the personality of this team. We went for the win, just like we said before the game, and that showed on the pitch."
A positive evaluation
"The evaluation I can make of my players' performance is very positive. We had played a game a very short time ago. I try to make the changes that I see fit, in the moment I see fit."
The way forward
"I'm quite positive. We are always looking at the positive side of things and we work with that spirit. I don't know if this game is going to be a turning point. We come into this one having been closer to winning than losing in the last few games. We try to make the choices that we think are best, and in this situation we are quite convinced about the way forward. From the first minute to the last, we showed that we wanted to win. It is a step forward compared to other games, in which we have not been so consistent. We do our best every day. At this ground you have to work very well at differentiating the moments in which you should press, and in which you should hold back. This is the result of the constant work from the team."
The penalty
"Going into halftime with the score at 1-1 hurt us. The move is a 'push' that first of all was given as a push, then for lower body contact. The important thing is that it didn't throw our concentration off, and we did our work pretty well."
